KFC is playing on Australia’s long-standing love affair with Japanese flavours with the launch of its new limited-edition menu item, Sweet Tokyo Hot & Crispy, available nationwide from today, October 7.
The dish reimagines KFC’s classic Hot & Crispy boneless chicken with a Japanese-inspired twist. Each piece is coated in a glossy, sticky-sweet teriyaki glaze and finished with a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds, creating a familiar fusion of sweet and savoury with that familiar KFC crunch.
To celebrate the launch, KFC will unveil a world-first KFC vending machine giving away free Sweet Tokyo Hot & Crispy on Friday, October 18. The vending machine will appear at a yet-to-be-revealed Sydney location, with clues shared on social media in the lead-up.
Sally Spriggs, KFC Group Marketing Director, said the new release builds on Australians’ growing appetite for Japanese-inspired flavours.
“At KFC, we love surprising our fans with new flavour experiences, and Sweet Tokyo Hot & Crispy is one of our most exciting yet. Australians already love Japanese-inspired flavours, so we wanted to bring a little taste of Tokyo to KFC with our iconic Hot & Crispy twist,” she said.
Sweet Tokyo Hot & Crispy will be available at select KFC restaurants nationwide from Tuesday, October 7, until Monday, November 3. Prices start from $8.45 for a 3 or 6-piece pack.
KFC can opt for the Sweet Tokyo Fill Up – featuring two pieces of Sweet Tokyo Hot & Crispy, chips, potato and gravy, and a dinner roll – or the Sweet Tokyo Box for a larger appetite, including two pieces of the new chicken, a Zinger Burger, regular chips, potato and gravy and a drink.
The limited-edition flavour can be ordered in-store, through the KFC App, or delivered straight to your door.
